DOROTHEA D. HANKINS, age 90 years, died on Saturday, July 25, 2009 in her home in New Providence, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She was the wife of the late Garland A. Hankins who died in 2001.

Born on April 5, 1919 in Annville, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Elmer B. and Dorothea (Frederick) George. She had worked as a lathe operator for 28 years at RCA in Lancaster, retiring in 1962. She was a member of Tabernacle Regular Baptist Church in Airville, Pennsylvania and a member of the New Bridgeville VFC Ladies Auxiliary. She had lived in New Providence for the past 3 years, having moved from Holtwood, Pennsylvania. She enjoyed fishing, knitting, reading and watching NASCAR.

She is survived by:

A son, Robert A. Smith of Quarryville, Pennsylvania

Juanita Bosley and her husband, Charles of Pylesville, Maryland

Leighton Hankins and his wife, Gail of Forest Hill, Maryland

Shelva Jean Holmes and her husband, Bud of Gaffney, South Carolina

Nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, ten step-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Charles R. Smith and a brother, Karl George.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29th from 6 to 8 PM at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, Pennsylvania.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, the 30th at 11 AM at the funeral home with her minister, Pastor John Waltermyer officiating.

Interment will be in Union Chapel Cemetery, Delta, Pennsylvania.
