ELAINE J. HARRINGTON, age 85 years, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 from her home in Delta, PA. Born on September 7, 1926 in Gloversville, NY, she was the daughter of Marguerite and Gilbert Knapp and became the stepdaughter of August Person.

Retiring in September 1988 from the Capitol Area Intermediate Unit #15, she was an educator and psychologist. Elaine attended Gloversville High School and graduated with a B.S. from Millersville University in 1961. In 1966, she earned her Master's Degree in Education at Western Maryland College and her Doctorate in Education from the University of Pennsylvania in May of 1985.

Elaine was employed as a Regular Education and Special Education teacher in the York County Schools, and in Lancaster County, with Columbia and New Holland schools. She also held the position of Guidance Counselor at Eastern York High School, School Psychologist for Dade County, FL and Baltimore County, MD School Supervisor and Coordinator of Special Education. Elaine was a State Licensed Psychologist since 1974.

Her memberships included the PA Psychological Association, PSEA, PA Association of School Retirees, Octoraro Art Association, Keystone Painters and National Society Tole & Decorative Painters. Elaine was a former member of the Penn Mary Chapter #72 Order of Eastern Star, Delta, PA, having transferred her membership to the Robert Fulton Chapter #446 of Quarryville, PA. Elaine was also a member of the New Covenant Community Church of Delta.

She is survived by:

David Harrington and his wife, Robin of Delta, PA

Nine grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be scheduled at a future date. In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate memorial contributions to the York VNA Hospice, P.O. Box 2404, York, PA 17403.
