Obituary

ELLA LOUISE SWIFT ENFIELD, age 83 years of Street, MD, entered the Kingdom of our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 7, 2014. Born in Madonna, MD on May 28, 1931, she was a loving daughter of the late Charles L. and Nora (Poe) Swift. Married at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Madonna, she was the wife of Richard Heaps Enfield, Sr. for 59 years.

She is also survived by:

Two children-both of Whiteford, MD.

A son, Richard Heaps Enfield, Jr. and his wife, Joy Enfield

A daughter, Cynthia Enfield Poteet and her husband, Scott Poteet.

Ella grew up in Jarrettsville and graduated from the former Jarrettsville High School in 1948. She received a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Maryville College in Tennessee in 1952. She taught kindergarten and first grade in both Baltimore and Harford Counties for 15 years. She was a member of the D.A. R. since 1972 as well as a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Tau Chapter.

Ella was a longtime member of Highland Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, was ordained as Ruling Elder in 1974 and in 1969 as a Deacon. She and her husband founded Enfield Equipment in Whiteford, MD where she worked alongside her husband in the business community. She believed in "service to others" and promoting overall health which later led her to the opening and promoting of the former Whiteford Family Health Center, a Curves franchise and a Christian Childcare Center supported by the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church of Whiteford.

Ella was involved in dairy and crop farming for 40 years, promoting all aspects of agriculture. She was a 25 year member of the Highland Community Association and was instrumental in the formation of the Highland Commons Building.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Highland Presbyterian Church, 701 Highland Road, Street, MD where the funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Her pastor, Reverend John V. Carlson will officiate with interment in the adjoining church cemetery.
