IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elva Leona
Dubree
June 4, 1935 – January 31, 2024
Elva Leona DuBree, 88, of Street, MD, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 31, 2024, at the Senator Bob Hooper Hospice House, Forest Hill, MD. Elva was born on her family's farm to her late parents, Marshall Burke and Lena Viola (Hughes) Scarborough. Her beloved husband, Stanley D. DuBree passed away on December 23, 2014.
Elva was a beautiful light in this world. Her personality was contagious, her smile and laugh could light up a room. She was a woman full of love, commitment and patience. She was strong and persistent, having gained those traits in her childhood, living with four brothers; she was determined to prove herself able to work just as well, if not better than them. Later in life, those same values led her to become the beloved matriarch of her great family. When Stanley became ill, Elva was the one who took charge of his care. Even until his passing, she remained committed by his side.
She was a life-long resident of Street, MD. Elva and Stanley were members of The Church of The Ascension in Street, MD. When she was able, she enjoyed immersing herself in church activities. One of her favorite things to do was helping in the kitchen for church suppers. She was also a talented musician, playing the piano, flute and violin. In her free time, Elva enjoyed playing cards (especially rummy), watching birds and seeing her favorite flowers, peonies.
Elva is survived by three children; Nancy G. Monroe, of Texarkana, AR, William Marshall DuBree and his wife Lorna, of Darlington, MD and Peggy A. McMullen and her husband Dave, of Street, MD. In addition, she is survived by eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her beloved Stanley and parents, Elva was predeceased by her brothers, Marshall Burke Scarborough, Jr., Marion Francis Scarborough, George William Scarborough and Frederick Elias Scarborough.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at The Church of the Ascension, 3015 Dublin Road, Street, MD. Reverend Nick McDonald, retired parish rector will officiate.
