ETTA L. "Jean" FOX, age 73 years, died at 2:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011 in her home in Darlington, Maryland. She was the wife of Clarence H. Fox. They celebrated their 53rd. wedding anniversary on July 3, 2010.
Born on September 24, 1937 in Ashe County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Walter N. and Tincie (Reynolds) Brown. A homemaker and devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Fox provided child care in her home for many years to numerous children who all called her "Mamaw." She also was the caregiver for her mother who lived in her home for 19 years. She traveled to North Carolina and stayed for over 2 months to care for her sister, Dot, who died of the same illness in 1994. Her passion and gift in life was simply pleasing and serving others. At the age of 13, she accepted Christ as her Savior while attending Chestnut Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Crumpler, North Carolina. After moving to Maryland, she married and became a member of Franklin Baptist Church, Darlington, Maryland where she attended for over 53 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by:
A daughter, Theresa J. Karschner and her husband, Charles of Darlington, Maryland
A son, David W. Fox and his wife, Robin of Greeneville, Tennessee
Six grandchildren- Kimberly D. Rice, Amanda N. Karschner, Chad L. Karschner, David N. Fox, Davina N. Fox and Dalton N. Fox
A great grandson-Lucas J. Rice
Two brothers:
Charles Spencer Brown of West Jefferson, North Carolina
Burl Brown of Clayton, Georgia
Many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Lynn Fox in 1966.
She was also preceded by:
A brother, Walter Garland Brown
A sister, Dorothy Weaver
Half-sisters, Cashie Moore and Virginia Sturgill
Half-brother, Vince Brown.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 6, 2011 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Franklin Baptist Church, 2104 Franklin Church Road, Darlington, Maryland 21034.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, the 7th at 11:00 a.m. with her minister, Pastor Rick Wilson and her son, Pastor David W. Fox officiating.
Interment will be in Darlington Cemetery, Darlington, Maryland.
Pallbearers will be Phil Weaver, Jerry Brown, Larry Fox, Kevin Fox, Brian Cole and Robert Roark.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Karschner, Chad Karschner, Dave Fox, David Rice, Johnny Fox, Spencer Brown, Burl Brown, Wayne Moore, Roy Tosten, Larry Brown, Roger Brown, Meredith Roark, Greg Brown, Jeff Brown, Wayne Fox, Bruce Fox, Mickey Fox, Ronnie Cole, Ritchie Cole, Bob Stoots and Kin Powers.
