Fern A. Pomraning, age 84 of Brogue, Pennsylvania passed away early Tuesday morning, December 15, 2009 at The Villages Hospice House in Lady Lake, FL. She was the wife of Joseph S. Pomraning, who died on December 29, 2003.
Mrs. Pomraning was born on the family farm in Chanceford Township, the only child of Raymond M. and Jennie V. (Smeltzer) Sheckenbaugh. She spent her life involved in farming, her parents being "truck patch farmers" who were instrumental in establishing the Eastern Market in York. Following her marriage, she and her husband handled the dairy business of the farm while her parents concentrated on producing market crops to sell at the Eastern Market.
A lifetime member of the New Harmony Presbyterian Church in Brogue, she had been a Sunday School teacher and active in the women's Circle group.
Until recently she had served on the Board of Directors of the New Eastern Market in York.
Mrs. Pomraning is survived by 4 children:
Joan Bollman and husband Joe of Brogue
Gloria Daugherty and husband Dave of Brogue
Joseph Larry Pomraning of Brogue
Myron Pomraning and wife Teresa of Delta
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her great granddaughter, Amanda Bollman.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the New Harmony Presbyterian Church, 2295 Delta Road, Brogue.
Her pastor, Reverend Robert S. Edmundson will officiate.
The interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
Friends may call at the church on Monday from 12:30 until 2:00.
