Obituary

GEORGE W. PARKER, age 81 years of Darlington, Maryland died on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. He was the husband of Peggy Y. Parker who died on November 14, 2007.

Mr. Parker was born in Edgemere, Maryland on October 20, 1927 a son of Eunice (Whitley) Parker Laird of Columbus, Georgia and the late George W. Parker, Sr. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving from 1945 - 1948. He spent his career in various jobs within the automotive business retiring from Scott Pontiac as the service manager. Shortly thereafter, he began delivering automotive parts for Bearsch Automotive in Churchville, Maryland where he worked until December 2008.

He was a member of Mason-Dixon Post #194, American Legion in Rising Sun, Maryland.

Mr. Parker really enjoyed NASCAR, his dogs and bird watching, especially the eagles at Darlington. He was an avid walker.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by:

Three children: Richard K. Parker of Greenville, Delaware

Victoria Becker of Newark, Delaware

George W. Parker, III of Rising Sun, Maryland

Step-daughter: Diane R. Monk of Darlington, Maryland

Three sisters: Dorothy White of Columbus, Georgia

Katherine Bennett of Rising Sun, Maryland

Donna Madron of Onley, Virginia

Also survived by numerous grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 7 at 2:00 p.m. at the Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main St., Delta, Pennsylvania where the viewing will be held from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m.

Pastor Gary Sieglein of the Darlington United Methodist Church will officiate.

Interment will be in Darlington Cemetery with military honors under the direction of his home post and the United States Marine Corp Honor Guard.
