Obituary

GEORGE WM. (Buddy) RIFFEY, Sr., age 71 years of Aberdeen, Maryland, passed away after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace, Maryland. He was the husband of Nancy (Sturgis) Riffey and they shared forty-five years of marriage.

Mr. Riffey was born on October 2, 1937 in Smith County, Virginia; he was a son of the late George Washington and Josephine (Thomas) Riffey. He had lived in Darlington until two years ago when he moved to Aberdeen. Working as a heavy equipment operator, he retired from Dixie Construction in 2003. He was a member of Carsins Run Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and working on lawn mowers.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:

Chris Billings and her husband, Woodrow of Taylorsville, North Carolina

Linda Billings and her husband, Daniel, also of Taylorsville

Theresa Murphy and her husband, Larry of Street, Maryland

Pamela Riffey of Greensboro, Maryland

George Wm. Riffey and his wife, Carrie of Forest Hill, Maryland

Eighteen grandchildren, a great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

A brother, Michael Riffey and his wife, Phyllis of Pennsylvania

Lucille Walls and her husband, Dennis of Northeast, Maryland

Daisy Reed and her husband, Ben of York, Pennsylvania

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Riffey and a grandson, Daniel A. Billings.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 6, 2009 from 6 - 8 PM at Carsins Run Baptist Church, 3524 Churchville Road, Aberdeen, Maryland with the funeral service at the church on Saturday beginning at 11 AM.

His pastor, Pastor James Wright will officiate.

Interment will be in Dublin Southern Cemetery, Darlington, Maryland.
