Kilgore
December 12, 1921 – August 20, 2021
GEORGE W. KILGORE, 99 of Delta, PA, passed away on Friday August 20, 2021 in York Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Eunice (Ramsay) Kilgore. Known as "Bill", he was born on December 12, 1921 in Bridgeton, PA, one of four sons to the late John Ralph Kilgore and Jessie (Johnson) Kilgore and moved to Delta at the age of 13. He spent his lifetime in southern York County and was a longtime member of the former Delta United Methodist Church until its closure and then transferred to Pine Grove Presbyterian Church, Airville, PA. After deciding Eunice Ramsay was the one for him, he cut logs, dried the lumber and built their home that took 5 years to complete. He then married Eunice on October 8, 1955, and they shared 21 years of marriage, but had been together for more than 30 years at the time of her death in July of 1976. Bill served with the U.S. Army from October 22, 1942 – November 3, 1943.
Bill worked for over 40 years as a welder for the US Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Harford County, MD retiring, in January of 1986. An avid outdoorsman, he purchased his first cabin on the Susquehanna River in the former Dorsey Park (now where the Peach Bottom Atomic Plant is located) in 1948 and in 1960, relocated the cabin to the Robinson Run area of the Susquehanna River. He was one of the original men to cut the first road down to the new area when the power plant was built granting access to the cabins at the river. In 1988, Bill purchased a cabin in Potter County, PA and loved to go there to hunt and fish. Bill was very active in his community with memberships with the former John S. Murphy Post #7130, VFW in Delta, the American Legion Post #182 of Whiteford, MD and the Mason-Dixon Lions Club. He was a daily patron of the Delta Family Restaurant where he would sit on one of the stools, drink his morning coffee and solve the world's problems with the other regulars.
