HARLEY J. "Coach" PARKES, JR. age 64 years, died on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 6:08 p.m. in his home in Conowingo, MD. He was the husband of Patricia A. (nee Phillips) Parkes and on December 26th they would have celebrated their 42nd anniversary.

Born on May 27, 1949 in Chester, PA, he was a son of Nellie (nee Hickey) Parkes of Elkton, MD and the late Harley J. Parkes. A graduate of Ridley Park High School in 1967, he continued his education by receiving his Bachelor's Degree from Shelton College in 1971 and achieving his Master's Degree in Administration from the Bob Jones University in 1985. Mr. Parkes' involvement with Harford Christian School spanned nearly 40 years, beginning in 1974, where he taught 5th grade students until 1984. He then became the Athletic Director followed by the position of Alumni Association Director. Originally coaching boys soccer from 1974, he added girls soccer in 1997. Over the years, he led the girls teams to 17 winning seasons and 15 state championships for Christian Schools. Mr. Parkes was a longtime member of Reformation Bible Church.

Mr. Parkes enjoyed working with model trains, playing soccer and vacationing at Hacks Point, MD and Cape May, N.J.

Kyle Nolan Harley Parkes and his wife, Kelly of Strasburg, PA

Sean Patrick Harley Parkes of Conowingo, MD

A granddaughter, Sierra Dawn Parkes

A sister, Karen M. Rhoades of New Castle, DE

A brother, Timothy D. Parkes and his wife, Chun of Milford, DE

Two step-grandchildren to be: Kaitlyn and Landon Williams.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Reformation Bible Church, 1736 Whiteford Road, Darlington, MD.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the church with his pastor, Reverend Dr. John E. McKnight officiating.

Interment will be in Darlington Cemetery, Darlington, MD.
