HARRY L. JONES, age 92 years of Bel Air, MD died on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Hart Heritage Estate in Street, MD. He was the husband of Nancy L. (Righter) Jones who died earlier this year on March 10th and September 19th would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. Born on October 26, 1920 in Grassy Creek, NC, he was a son of the late Thomas Scott and Hazel Venice (Livesay) Jones.
A 1938 graduate of the former Highland High School, Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific Theater and in the Philippine Liberation. He then served with the Occupational Forces in Japan after the conclusion of WWII until his Honorable Discharge in 1946.
Mr. Jones studied at Pasadena Junior College in Pasadena, CA; University of Iowa and graduated in 1952 from the University of Maryland with a degree in Agricultural Engineering where he also played on the soccer team. He secured a position with the B&O Railroad for four years before working as a civil engineer for over 25 years for McLean Contracting Company at their Baltimore Office. His specialty was working on large water work projects and bridges.
Retiring in the early 1980's, Mr. Jones continued to accept small engineering jobs and was an avid sports fan of the Baltimore Orioles and the Maryland Terrapins. He was an 81 year member of the Highland Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder, deacon and trustee.

A brother, Robert L. Jones and his wife, Charlene of Westminster, MD
A sister-in-law, Nancy Jones of Pylesville, MD, wife of his late brother, Wilson
Sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by:
His son, Bruce C. Jones; sister, Edith Cooper and brothers-Samuel and Wilson Jones.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Highland Presbyterian Church, 701 Highland Road, Street, MD 21154 where the funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m.
Military honors will be presented by the United States Army Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate memorial contributions to the church at the above address.
