Obituary

HARVEY W. WAYNE, age 93 years, of Airville, Pennsylvania died on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Ethel A. (Bosley) Wayne and on September 19th, they celebrated 27 years of marriage. He had been the husband of Elizabeth (Ailes) Wayne who passed away in 1979.

Born on December 6, 1915 in Delta, he was a son of the late James R. and Florence E. (Flaharty) Wayne. Mr. Wayne was a veteran of the US Army Air Corp serving as a radioman during the Asiatic-Pacific Theater campaign of WWII in China, Burma and India. He had been employed at Aberdeen Proving Ground for 31 years, retiring in April 1972 as a Maintenance Supervisor. He also worked as a Tipstaff for the York County Court System.

His memberships included Friendship Lodge #663 F. & A.M., Fawn Grove; lifetime member of John S. Murphy Post #7130 VFW, Delta; American Legion Post #182, Whiteford, Maryland; Valley of Harrisburg Consistory, AARP; Delta Area Senior Center, National Association of Retired Federal Employees; lifetime member of the Delta-Cardiff VFC and the Veterans Honor Guard from its inception until 1992.

He loved camping, playing cards, dancing and travel. He was a member of the Stewartstown Promenaders and the Florida Holiday Squares in Leesburg, FL.

Mr. Wayne was very active with the Slateville Presbyterian Church in Delta where he was a member for over 70 years. His devotion to his church included service as an Elder, Clerk of Session, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and leader of the Men's Bible Class.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:

A daughter, Sally Jo Kohlbus and her husband William of Delta

Two step-children

Jean Eby and her husband John of Shrewsbury, PA

Nancy Arnold and her husband Wilfred of Airville, PA

Eight step-grandchildren and fifteen step-great grandchildren and six step great great grandchildren.

A brother, Paul A. Wayne of Loganville, PA

His loving feline companion, Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret E. Patterson and Ruth Shook and his brothers, John and Everett Wayne.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta with a Masonic Service by his lodge at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 31 at 11:00 a.m. at the Slateville Presbyterian Church, 308 Slateville Road, Delta.

His pastor, Rev. Carletta R. Curley and Rev. Harry R. Robinson will officiate.

Interment with military honors will be in Slateville Cemetery.
