HELEN LOUISE (SPARKS) MITCHELL, 78 of Bel Air, MD, passed away late on Sunday, August 11, 2024 in the Senator Bob Hooper Hospice in Forest Hill, MD. She was the cherished wife for 48 years of William Lee Mitchell.

Born on May 25, 1946 in Pylesville, MD, she was one of nine children born to the late Willie John Sparks and Mary Bertha (Cochran) Sparks. Helen had worked for a sewing factory in Bel Air, MD followed by working as a cook for Forest Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center. She also had worked for the former Thomas Street Deli in Bel Air, MD. Helen loved to cook and was known for her tasty potato salad that family members have tried to recreate with not much success. Mashed potatoes were another of her specialties that her family still thinks about with fond memories. Later in life, her husband gifted her a "She Shed" complete with heat and electricity where she enjoyed creating silk flower designs. Helen was a member of The First Baptist Church of Delta for the past four years. Known as "Nana" she loved her family and was excited to hear the news that another baby was on the way.

A niece that she had a special relationship with: Shirley Smith

She was preceded in death by her eight siblings.

Services will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024 in Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main St, Delta, PA with a viewing from 10 – 11:30 a.m. followed immediately with the funeral service led by her pastor, Reverend Jerry Carr. Interment will follow in Jarrettsville Cemetery, Jarrettsville, MD.
