HILDA M. MONTGOMERY, 95 of Darlington, MD, died early in the morning on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024. Born on August 3, 1928, in Felton, PA, she was one of nine children born to the late Frank Montgomery and Mary Agnes (Williams) Montgomery. In 1947, Hilda and her family opened the Ballpark Diner in Street, MD where she was known for her country cooking. Her specialties were her homemade soups – especially the potato, hot roast beef sandwich with fries and her salads with the ever-popular coleslaw. Hilda always hosted the traditional family holiday dinners and enjoyed preparing the meals with her special touch. Known to be a caring woman, she prepared meals for her neighbors- George Inscor and his late brother, Henry for many years. As her health began to decline, her niece Shirley Swinski became her caregiver.
She is survived by additional
loving nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her eight siblings: Ethel, Frank, Ramsey, Arthur, Dorothy, Mildred, W. Kenneth and Helen.
Services will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024 at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA with a viewing from 10 – 11 a.m. followed immediately with the funeral service. Her neighbor, Pastor Mark Rudd of Trinity Free Will Baptist Church will be officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Delta, PA.
