Irene Ruth Herilla, 97, of Quarryville, PA, died on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster, PA. Irene was born in Webster, PA, to her late parents, John and Elizabeth (Surovchak) Buchta. She was married to her late husband, Theodore Herilla, Sr., until his death in 1992.

Irene was a graduate of Ross-Traver High School, in Belle Vernon, PA. She grew up and lived in Western PA for most of her life. She was a coal miner's daughter and one of eight children to her parents. She was a joyful and loving woman, who cared deeply for her family. One of her greatest joys was raising, nurturing and spending time with her grandchildren. In her spare time, Irene loved to quilt and attend events at the senior center. Irene was a devout Christian and loved the Lord. She was a longtime member of Hopewell United Presbyterian Church and most recently was a member and attended Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, where her son is the Associate Pastor. One of her great joys was attending the Sonflowers small group at Cornerstone.

Irene is survived by her children, Pastor Robert Herilla and his wife Denise, of Darlington, MD and Daniel Herilla and his wife Cindy, of Penncraft, PA. She will be lovingly missed by her grandchildren; Jessica and her husband Kyle, Richard and his wife Bobbie, Ted and his wife Janet, Rene and her husband AJ, Thomas and his wife Gina and Michael and by her great grandchildren; Grace, Cameron, Alex, Josh, Ryan, Meghan and Nelson. She is also survived by her siblings, John Buchta and Virginia Day.

In addition to her late husband and parents, Irene was preceded in death by her children, Theodore John Herilla and Diane Thomas, her granddaughter, Tekla and her siblings, Mildred Sozansky, Dorothy Sholtis, Martha Kidd, Edith Rose and Ellen Behling.

A visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2024, from 5:30 until 6:30 pm at Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, 3135 Dublin Road, Street, MD. A Memorial Service will begin in Sanctuary of the church at 6:30 with Reverend Tracy Duvall officiating. A private inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family.

For the last few years of Irene's life, she lived at Country View Manor in Quarryville, PA. The family would like to thank the staff and fellow residents who lovingly cared for Irene while she called County View Manor home.
