JAMES WILSON "Poppy" STURGIS, Sr., age 69 years of Delta, Pennsylvania died at 9:43 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania. He was the husband of Pearl L. (Comer) Sturgis for fifty-one years.
Mr. Sturgis was born on February 3, 1939 in Street, Maryland; he was a son of the late Woodrow Wilson and Mary Josephine (Scarborough) Sturgis. Mr. Sturgis was the owner/operator of J & P Enterprises and a member of Tabernacle Regular Baptist Church in Brogue, Pennsylvania. He played the banjo, dobro, guitar and sang in bluegrass and gospel music bands.

Four children-Rebecca Jean Harrington of Brogue, Pennsylvania
James Wilson Sturgis, Jr. of Red Lion, Pennsylvania
Donna Kaye LeCrone of Felton, Pennsylvania
Barbara Josephine Weaver of Delta
Ten grandchildren and a great granddaughter
Three sisters-

Mabel Richardson of Lansing, North Carolina
Nancy Riffey of Darlington, Maryland
A brother, Charles Sturgis of Street, Maryland
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2008 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM at Tabernacle Regular Baptist Church, 23 Chanceford Road, Brogue, Pennsylvania.
The funeral service will be on Monday, July 21st at 11:00 AM at the church with his minister, Pastor John D. Waltermyer officiating.
Interment will be in Bel Air Memorial Gardens, Bel Air, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Patient Help Fund, York Cancer Center, 25 Monument Road, Suite 194, York, PA 17403.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Comer, Steve LeCrone, Don Harrington, Miles Weaver, "Buddy" James Wilson Sturgis, Jr. and Jason May.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Ingool, Harry Hendrickson and Jimmy Comer.
