Obituary

JEAN DOOLEY GALBREATH, age 87 years, formerly of Delta, PA died at 1:00 a.m. on Monday, August 04, 2014 at the Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Shrewsbury, PA. She was the wife of David C. Galbreath who died on November 3, 1991.

Mrs. Galbreath was born in the Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church manse in Cardiff, MD on September 11, 1926. She was a daughter of the late John Malford and Rosa (Hyde) Dooley. A graduate of Delta High School, she received her bachelor's degree from Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA and later her teaching certificate from Millersville University. From 1966 until her retirement in 1988, Mrs. Galbreath worked as an elementary teacher at the Delta-Peach Bottom Elementary School, primarily teaching 2nd grade. She was a lifetime member of the Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church in Cardiff, MD where her grandfather, Reverend A. Lewis Hyde served 43 years as pastor. An active member of the church, Mrs. Galbreath had served terms as both an elder and deacon in addition to teaching Sunday School and acting as the financial secretary. An avid bridge player, she had played bridge with the same group of friends since the 1950's. Mrs. Galbreath was a member of the Daughters of American Colonists.

She is survived by:

One son: David H. Galbreath and his wife, Katherine of Street, MD

Four grandchildren: CPT David R. Galbreath and his wife, Lauren, currently serving with the U.S. Army as Company Commander, Delta Company, 4th. Attack Recon Battalion, 4th. Aviation Regiment, Fort Carson, CO

CPT Steven H. Galbreath and his wife, Mallory, currently serving with the U.S. Army as A/S3 3-1 AHB, Fort Riley, KS

Stephanie Jean Wagner Johnson

Emily Ann Wagner, both of Northampton, PA

Two great grandchildren: David Henry Galbreath and Haleigh Anne Johnson

Mrs. Galbreath was preceded in death by her daughter, Anne G. Wagner and her brother, L. Hyde Dooley.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 8 at 11:00 a.m. at the Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church, 1630 Chestnut St., Cardiff, MD 21160.

Officiating will be Reverend Guy W. Dunham and Chaplain Hank Steinhilber, Chaplain (COL) U.S. Army, Retired.

Interment will be in Slate Ridge Cemetery, Delta, PA.

Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Following the committal at Slate Ridge Cemetery, the family extends their invitation to a luncheon to be served in the church fellowship hall.
