IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jean Marie
Powell
October 15, 1937 – February 4, 2026
Celebration of Life
Delta Chapel
Starts at 11:00 am (Eastern time)
Jean Marie Powell, 88, passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, at UPMC of York on February 4, 2026.
She was born on October 15, 1937, in Rochester, New York, the oldest of seven siblings born to Leo and Ethel Wesley. As she approached retirement, Jean relocated to York County, Pennsylvania, and ultimately made her home in Stewartstown, PA, where she resided since 2011.
Jean was an accomplished seamstress, well known for sewing many of her own clothes as well as those of her children while they were growing up. She was also an avid reader and a devoted sports fan who could easily strike up a conversation with anyone about the latest football stats.
Of all the experiences in her 88 years, Jean’s greatest joy was time spent with her grandchildren. She was deeply involved in many of their lives during childhood and treasured the close relationships she shared with them into adulthood. She was always cheering them on, offering encouragement, and taking pride in watching them grow into adults with families of their own.
Jean is survived by her three children: Marcy Laferte (and husband Norm), Christine Lash, and Daniel Lash (and wife Cindy); eight grandchildren: Emily, David, Amanda, Sierra, Jordan, Jessica, Earl, and Carlee; and five great-grandchildren: Eleanor, Lucy, Mallory, Earl, and Harper.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on February 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Delta Chapel, 100 Chapel Street, Delta, PA. A luncheon and time of sharing will immediately follow at Mt. Nebo Church of Delta, 962 Flintville Road, Delta, PA.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff on the second floor and in the ICU at UPMC of York. We are eternally grateful not only for your exceptional nursing care, but also for the unwavering respect, kindness, and compassion you showed to our mother and grandmother.
Wagner-Elfner and Harkins Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 600 Main Street, Delta, Pennsylvania 17314, is assisting the family with arrangements.
