Obituary

JoAnn Britton, formerly of Delta, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026.

Born on May 18, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late John Scarborough and Marian Scarborough (née Fisher). JoAnn was the beloved wife of the late Richard H. Britton, with whom she shared a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

She was a devoted mother to Stephanie Clark, Andrea Britton, and Jennifer Fredricks (Tim), a loving grandmother of Brittany Spurlock (Lee), Richard Clark, Samantha Clark, Thomas Hooper (Andrea), John Hooper, Lauren Fredricks, Nicole Fredricks, and Ethan Fredricks, and a proud great-grandmother of four.

JoAnn dedicated much of her life to caring for others. After working at Aberdeen Proving Ground, she chose to step away in 1969 to become a full-time homemaker and caregiver, selflessly tending to her mother until her passing in 2001. Her life was defined by quiet strength, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family.

A woman deeply rooted in her community and faith, JoAnn was a member of Slateville Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. She was actively involved in numerous organizations, including being a past member of the Peach Bottom Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonists, a past member of the Penn-Mar Chapter #72 Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of AARP. She was also a proud alumna of the Class of 1961 of Kennard High School.

JoAnn’s commitment to her community extended to her involvement with the Delta-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company, where she was an honorary member and an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She also served as Past President of the Harford County Ladies Auxiliary, leaving a lasting impact through her dedication and leadership.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures and treasured traditions. JoAnn was an avid Beanie Baby collector, loved traveling and cruising with her husband, and enjoyed frequent trips to Atlantic City. A devoted sports fan, she proudly attended the Super Bowl XLVII and remained a passionate supporter of the Baltimore Ravens throughout her life.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate JoAnn’s life once services are confirmed at Slateville Presbyterian Church, 308 Slateville Road, Delta, PA 17314. Details we be updated as they become available.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in JoAnn’s memory to Delta Old Line Museum or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Wagner-Elfner and Harkins Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.

JoAnn will be remembered for her kind heart, her devotion to those she loved, and the legacy of care and community she leaves behind.
