Life story prepared by his family -

John Paul Akin, Sr., 65, of Prosperity, West Virginia, died on Monday, August 30, 2021. Mr. Akin was born on November 23, 1955 in Beckley, West Virginia to his late mother, Iris Faye (Shirkey) Windon who later moved to Maryland where she married the late Sydney Herbert Windon, John's stepfather, who helped raise him.

Graduating from North Harford High School in 1976, John worked as a heavy equipment operator for Dance Brothers, Inc. He was part of the construction of many buildings including the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center until he was hurt on the job that led to an early retirement and more time for his family.

John was an avid outdoorsman. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, dirt track racing and watching NASCAR. He cherished his time spent at the family's cabin in Mason County, West Virginia where he enjoyed sharing memories, hunting stories and words of wisdom. While these things were important to John, his most treasured gift in life was spending time his family. His greatest accomplishment was being called Paw Paw by his grandkids.

John is survived by his children, Charlotte and Bobby Davis; Michelle Akin;Ashley and Kenny Green; John Akin, Jr. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren; Evan, Jonathan, Makayla, Brayden and Elizabeth.

Although he is gone from this earth, his memory will always be alive in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, family and friends.
