John H. Barthold, Sr. age 71 years of Terra Alta, WV died on Wednesday April 8, 2009 at Preston Memorial Hospital, Kingwood, WV. He was the husband of Linda (Reedy) Barthold.

John was born August 10, 1937 in Lancaster, PA a son of the late John and Loretta Barthold. A loving husband, father and friend, he was proud to be an American and to have served in the United States Navy. He further served his country through membership in Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW Post #578), Terra Alta, WV, the American Legion (Post #135), Perryville, MD, Moose Lodge (#1395), Terra Alta, WV, and a very proud member of Susquehanna Lodge #130 AF&AM, Havre de Grace, MD. His love for the outdoors, hunting, fishing and such, led him to be an active member of the NRA. John had a strong faith and love of God and had just recently joined the First United Methodist Church in Terra Alta, WV.

In addition to his wife he is survived by:

One daughter, Pam Dukes, of Fayettesville, NC

One step-son, Christopher F. Ambrose, of Baltimore, MD

One step-daughter, Laurie D. Ambrose, of Aberdeen, MD

One sister, Mary Elizabeth Fisher, of Lancaster, PA

Two grandchildren, Aaron and Kelly Dukes and 7 step-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two sons, Joshua M. and John H. Barthold III.

Friends will be received at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta on Saturday April 11, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. until the 2:00 p.m. time of service with Rev. Michael L. Daniels officiating.

Military services will be conducted by Preston County VFW Posts.

A viewing will also be held on Tuesday, April 14 from 12 Noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA.

A Masonic service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday under the direction of the Susquehanna Lodge.

The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday with Reverend John W. Manry of the North Harford Baptist Church officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in Slate Ridge Cemetery, Delta.
