Obituary

JOHN S. DAVIS "Jack", age 81 years died on Monday, February 11, 2008 in his home in Street, Maryland.

Jack was born August 18, 1926 at Geneva Farm in Street, Maryland; he was the youngest son of Katherine Armitage Streett and Gladden Davis, grandson of Flora Mitchell and John Abraham Streett, and Bertha Belle Gladden and James Wilson Davis.

Street, the small agricultural community where he was born, was named for his mother's family. Thomas Streett, Sr. was a signer of the Association of Freemen and the Oath of Allegiance and Fidelity of Maryland in 1776 and 1778 and was a patriot of the American Revolution. His son, Colonel John Streett, commanded the Harford County Cavalry in the War of 1812. The troops were cousins and neighbors. Jack was also descended from other patriots: Joseph Manifold, Jacob Gladden and Ensign Sedgwick James.

Jack graduated from the former Highland High School where he was vice-president of the Sophomore Class and played clarinet. Later, he served as a two term vice-president of the Highland High School Alumni Association. He showed his Guernsey calves and yearlings at Bel Air Fair, Timonium State Fair and McDonogh School where he earned several trophies.

Jack was a life-long resident of Harford County. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army Signal Corps. He was stationed at Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey, Ft. Crowder, Missouri and in the Philippine Islands. He received an Honorable Discharge.

In 1990, Jack converted the family farm into what is now known as Geneva Farm Golf Club. The club features an 18 hole, par 72 championship course, and the original twin silo barn was converted into the restaurant and club house.

In 1954, Jack married Louise Marie Hanson, a school teacher at North Harford High School. They had one child, Kelly Louise Davis. Louise died of leukemia in 1972.

In 1974 Jack married Emma Lou Priestley, and they had three children, Kelly, Charles and Sharon. Lou passed away in 2000.
