Obituary

John A. Glassman, Sr., age 75, of Street, Maryland, passed away on January 15, 2026.

Born on March 26, 1950, in Havre de Grace, Maryland, John was the son of the late Earl and Doris Glassman.

John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He later retired in 2006 from Aberdeen Proving Ground, where he dedicated many years of service.

A lifetime member of the Darlington Volunteer Fire Company, John dedicated decades of service to the department. As a paramedic and firefighter, he held many leadership roles throughout the years. Serving as Fire Chief was the role he held with the greatest pride, and one that reflected his deep commitment to protecting and serving his community.

After retirement, John enjoyed working alongside his son-in-law, Kirk, learning the craft of hardwood floor refinishing, deer hunting, and spending time with his family camping in their RV where they created cherished memories. He was also a faithful member of the Church of the Ascension in Street, where he remained devoted to attending services, even driving his golf cart to church when he was no longer able to drive.

In quieter moments, John enjoyed carving ducks, a hobby that reflected his patience and craftsmanship. In the later years of his life, when his wife became ill, John devoted himself fully to her care, spending those years as her loving and faithful caregiver.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sara Jean Glassman; his parents, Earl and Doris Glassman; and his brother,Thomas Glassman.

John is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (Kirk) Iddings, of Street; his son, John Glassman, Jr., of Street; and his cherished grandchildren, Kyle (Meredith), Kole, and Kara Iddings, and Kemper and Brooks Glassman.

Also survived by brothers James, Ken, Robert and wife Judith, Arthur (TC) and wife Rachel, and sister Janet Dill.
