John H. Marrs, of Pylesville, Maryland, faithfully completed his earthly journey and went home to lay all of his crowns at the feet of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 26, 2026. He was 90 years old.

Born on February 21, 1936, in Frankford, West Virginia, John was the son of the late Samuel B. Marrs and Maryland V. Mitchell Marrs.

John’s life was firmly rooted in his faith in Jesus Christ. He loved studying God’s Word, with a particular devotion to the Book of Revelation and its promise of a day when sorrow, pain, and death will be no more. The words of Revelation 21:4 were not simply a comforting passage to John—they reflected the hope upon which he built his life and the promise he carried with him into eternity.

On July 16, 1960, John married the love of his life, Arlene R. Lehman Marrs. Together, they shared more than 66 years of marriage, building a life centered upon faith, family, hard work, and devotion to one another.

John retired from Whiteford Packing Company in 1991. Never one to remain idle for long, he continued working as a maintenance technician for the South Eastern School District in Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania, until his retirement in 2002. Throughout his working years, John was known as a dependable and hardworking man who took pride in caring for the people and places entrusted to him.

He was a devoted member of Woodbine Believers Assembly in Airville, Pennsylvania, where he had worshiped since 2004. His love for Christian fellowship led him to establish the R.O.M.E.O. Bible Study—“Retired Old Men Eating Out”—a cherished gathering that continues to this day. What began as an opportunity for fellowship became part of John’s enduring legacy: bringing men together to share a meal, study Scripture, strengthen their faith, and walk through life beside one another.

When he was not working or studying the Bible, John could often be found fishing or tending to his garden. He found joy in the quiet simplicity of casting a line, working the soil, watching things grow, and appreciating the beauty of God’s creation.

In addition to his beloved wife, Arlene, John is survived by his children: Tammy Teague and her late husband, Anthony, of Delta, Pennsylvania; Patricia Jo Tillman and her husband, Wil, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; John H. Marrs Jr. and his wife, Vanessa, of Port Deposit, Maryland; Linda Pohl and her husband, James, of Airville, Pennsylvania; and Michael Marrs and his wife, Tiffany, of Pylesville, Maryland.

He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Wise and her husband, Roy, of Delta, Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, Steven Marrs, of Delta, Pennsylvania, and his son-in-law, Anthony Teague.

John’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Wagner-Elfner and Harkins Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 600 Main Street, Delta, Pennsylvania 17314. A funeral service celebrating John’s life and unwavering faith will begin at 3:00 p.m., officiated by the Reverend James A. Baldwin.

Interment will follow in Mount Nebo Church of Delta Cemetery.

John lived with the assurance that this world was not his final home. Although those who loved him now grieve his absence, they do so with the hope that he has entered the place he longed for—a place where God has wiped every tear from his eyes, where death and sorrow are no more, and where he now stands face-to-face with the Savior he faithfully loved and served.
