JOYCE ARLEEN (BARTON) RIGDON, age 76 of Airville, PA, departed this life on Sunday, January 4, 2015 and was born on June 1, 1938 in Whiteford, MD to the late Walter Greer and Lela Beatrice (Sapp) Barton.
A 1956 graduate of Kennard-Dale High School, Joyce worked as a secretary for Aberdeen Proving Ground for 33 years. Her faith, optimism and humor guided her days. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family; playing bingo and dominoes and was fond of country/bluegrass music. An avid Baltimore Orioles and Ravens fan, she was known to love cheering for her teams. Currently a member of Fawn United Methodist Church in Fawn Grove, PA, Joyce had been a 60+ year member of Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church in Cardiff, MD.
She is survived by:
A daughter, Laura Leigh (Rigdon) Warner and her husband, Gene of Red Lion, PA
A son, Stephen John Rigdon, III and Sheryl Morris of Bel Air, MD.
A sister, Norma Sue (Barton) Baer of New Freedom, PA
Two brothers-
Edwin Clay Barton of Fawn Grove, PA
Roger Allen Barton of Baltimore, MD
A grandson, Brandon Michael Warner and his wife, Emily of Windsor, PA
A granddaughter, Lacey Leigh Warner and her fiancé, Trevor Koppenhaver of York, PA
Three great grandchildren-
Ryleigh Ann Warner, Austin Michael Warner and Lillian Leigh Warner
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Lanthin Greer Barton and Carroll Payton Barton and a sister, Wilma Jean Barton.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA where the funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday.
Interment will be held in Slate Ridge Cemetery with a time of refreshment and fellowship to celebrate Joyce's Life will follow at Fawn United Methodist Church, 67 South Market Street, Fawn Grove, PA.
In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Johns Hopkins Oncology: Kimmel Cancer Center, 750 East Pratt Street, Suite 1700, Baltimore, MD 21202.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the oncology staff at Johns Hopkins University of Baltimore for their support and excellent care during Joyce's last days.
