MARIAN KATHRYN WHITEFORD WHEELER WILEY, 98 of Whiteford, MD, passed away in her home early in the morning of Wednesday, May 22, 2024. She was the beloved wife for 48 years of Charles Walter Wiley who died on May 25, 1998.

Born on February 26, 1926 in York, PA, she was the only child of the late H. Wilson Wheeler and Marian Kathryn (Whiteford) Wheeler. Kathryn was a 1943 graduate of the former Slate Ridge High School and continued her education graduating in 1947 from the former Western Maryland College currently known as McDaniel College. Kathryn was a friendly face driving the Bookmobile throughout Harford County along with her dear friend, Dorothy Glackin for numerous years. Kathryn was an avid reader and throughout her lifetime, had read thousands of books.

Kathryn loved to ride horses from an early age and along with her late husband, bred and raised Arabian horses. Riding one of her horses, she led the Delta-Cardiff Fireman's Parade down Main Street during the 1950's. Kathryn loved to play Bridge weekly enjoying the time with her friends, Carol Morris, Dorothy Glackin and dear friends who preceded her in death-Shirley Harkins, Charlotte Hess, Martha Ann Cowley, Jean Galbreath and Peg Thompson.

Church life was always important to Kathryn and she lived to be the oldest member of Slateville Presbyterian Church. She was very active having served as an elder, deacon and a Women's Sunday School Teacher. Even into her golden years, she was a smiling face at the women's lunch dates and outings. Kathryn never let the physical changes in her life dampen her spirits. It was remarked by community friends that anytime you were in her company, she was always excited to be with you and offered her contagious smile as well as her kind heart.

She is survived by:

Three children-Charles Richard Wiley (Karen), Karen Wiley Manning (Jay) and Mary Lou Taylor (Dennis)

Four grandchildren-Katie O'Neill, Lauren Smolenski, Jillian Manning and Leah Noel White.

Eight great grandchildren-Jacob, Jenna Kate, Luke, Finnley, Charlie, Mabel, Asher and Adam.

Viewings will be held on Tuesday, May 28th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA with the funeral service on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Slateville Presbyterian Church, 308 Slateville Rd., Delta, PA 17314. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery next to her beloved husband.
