Obituary

Lois A. Kretsch-Gemmill, age 74 of Westminster, MD passed away

at 9:55 am on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at a Westminster, Md

hospice following a several months long illness. She was the wife

of Eldon R. Gemmill of Westminster. They observed their 52nd wedding

anniversary on October 7, 2024.

Lois was born in Evanston, IL on April 24, 1950, a daughter of

the late Anthony F. and Nada (Hull) Kretsch and was a graduate of

Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, IL. She earned her

bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois and then

continued her education and training as a nurse anesthetist at

Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC. during the

Vietnam War era. Lois served in the U.S. Army for over 14 years

and finished her military career in the U.S. Army Reserves in West

Virginia while working as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

(CRNA) and also farming with her husband on their livestock and

forage farm during the 1980s. In 1989, she, her husband and their

two daughters moved from West Virginia to Carroll County,

Maryland where she continued her career as a CRNA for an

additional 23 years before her retirement.

Lois will be remembered for her zest for life and travel, her strong

work ethic, her kindness and enduring friendships with others,

and her love for quilting, the fabric arts, cooking and baking.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by:

Two daughters: Marin Gemmill and Myra Gemmill

Her two spirited and wonderful grandchildren: Annika Toyama and

Ronan Reed who were the joys of her life

Her sisters: Margaret Barile, Ellen Kretsch, Susan Floro and Marie

Herman

Her brothers: Jerry Kretsch, Joseph Kretsch,Jeffrey Kretsch and Kenneth Kretsch

Lois was preceded in death by her brother, John Kretsch.

A longtime member of the Chanceford Presbyterian Church in

Airville, PA, she enjoyed helping to serve meals at their annual

"Church Suppers" and during their February Faschnaught baking and

fundraising events.

The memorial service will be held at the Chanceford Presbyterian Church, 1784 Woodbine Road, Airville, PA 17302 on Saturday, January 25 with her pastor, Reverend Beth Appel officiating.

Following the service the inurnment committal service will be held

in the adjoining cemetery with military honors presented by the

York County Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in her

memory to the Chanceford Presbyterian Church at the above address.

Immediately following the service, friends and family will gather at the grave for the burial. Military honors will be presented at the graveside by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
