Obituary

Life story written by her family - Louise Ann White (Wengert) was born November 7, 1929, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, the third child of Samuel and Ada Wengert. Louise grew up on her family's dairy in Lebanon with her six brothers and sisters. While in high school, Louise enlisted as a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol where she trained to identify enemy aircraft during the Second World War. Louise attended Juniata College where she met Louis White at a dance for incoming students. Shortly after her graduation, Lou and Louise were married and spent nearly 65 years together until Lou's passing in 2016. Louise received her Master of Social Work from the University of Maryland while raising their three children. During her tenure as a social worker, Louise worked for several child welfare agencies before ending her career as a psychiatric social worker, most recently working at the Clifton T. Perkins hospital. As a result of her husband's career with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Louise lived among and served rural Native American communities in Oklahoma for a period before returning to the Washington, DC area. Although frequently busy with her career, Louise always made time for her large family by going on vacation with relatives, visiting her sisters in Florida, and frequently traveling to visit loved ones in Pennsylvania.

After retirement, Louise volunteered at the Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, MD and later at Mason-Dixon Community Services in Harford County. Louise enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Southern York County Garden Club. She loved to travel, was an avid reader, and a collector of antiques – especially old greeting and post cards. She enjoyed walking with friends and appreciating the natural beauty of Harford County. Louise passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 in Forest Hill, MD.

Louise is survived by two sisters, Joan Hettinger of Tallahassee Florida and Jane Sprecher of Palm Harbor, Florida, a brother, Kenneth Wengert (Charlotte) of Cornwall, PA, by her daughters Karen White of Forest Hill, Barbara Richardson (James) of Pylesville, and a son, Stephen White (Floreta) of Austin, Texas, six grandchildren-Jason Crutchley, Marissa Griffin, Robert White, Ryan Richardson, Samuel Richardson and Hannah Louise Williams, and six great- grandchildren.
