Obituary

Life story prepared by her loving family: Lucy Mae Belcher (Sexton) Boyd, 82 years old of Fawn Grove, PA, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. She was born in Honaker, Virginia, on August 22, 1941, the eldest child of the late Thomas J. and Mabel (Hess) Belcher. Lucy was a loving and devoted wife. She was married to the late Fred Daniel Sexton, Sr. on July 1, 1960, until his passing in 1984. In 1995, she married the late George Edward Boyd, who recently passed on January 22, 2023. She was the beloved mother of five children, two of which passed at birth, Lisha Ann Sexton and another daughter, Fred Daniel Sexton, Jr. (Rhonda), Teresa Dawn (Sexton) Rudd (Mark), and Vanessa Renee (Sexton) Marrs (John). She was also a loving stepmother to the late Barbara (Boyd) Warner (Barry), Daniel Boyd (Jackie), Daril Boyd (Shirley), and Deborah (Boyd) Garvine (Brian). She had eight grandchildren and six step grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. To grandma, there was never a distinction between natural and step, all were hers, cherished and loved equally. She is also survived by her beloved Sister, Valerie (Belcher) Adkins. Along with her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, Harold Belcher, Mary (Belcher) Sexton, Lilly (Belcher) Blackburn, and Melvin Belcher. She was also preceded in death by her first grandson, Jeremy Daniel Sexton.

Lucy worked almost 30 years at the Gleneagles Sewing Factory. When that closed, she attended the Medix School, where she was trained to be a Medical Assistant. She worked for 16 years at Smaldore Family Practice in Bel Air, MD, until her retirement in 2006.

Lucy lived to serve the Lord. Her life was centered around her church and her family. She wanted everyone she met to know and follow Jesus. Her last two years of life were spent telling every doctor, nurse, assistant, and any other person she met, how good her Lord had been to her and if they did not know Jesus as their personal Savior, that he loved them and wanted to be their dearest friend.
