Luther Williamson, 90, of Whiteford, MD, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family in the early morning hours of Friday, September 22, 2023. Luther was born in Pikeville, KY, to his parents, the late John and Dora Lee (Varney) Williamson. Luther was the loving husband of Helen Marie (Chapman) Williamson. They wed on October 25, 1958 and have celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Luther was born the fifth of nine children, in a four room cabin in the mountains of Kentucky. He left school after the eighth grade to work a full-time job, cutting prop timbers for the local coal mines. He did this to help support his parents and siblings. In 1956, Luther was drafted into the Army and served in Nancy, France. After returning state side, he continued his service with the Maryland National Guard. Following Honorable discharge from the military, Luther began a 37 year career with Baltimore Gas & Electric. He wore many hats in his life; coal miner, builder, soldier, farmer, but, he found his greatest joy and true calling being a faithful husband and devoted father. His devotion to his family was only surpassed by his love of the Lord.
In addition to his beloved Helen, Luther is survived by his children, John Walter Williamson and his wife, Heather Susan, of Whiteford, MD, and Steven Gregory Williamson and his wife, Andrea, of Sparks, MD. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. In addition, one brother, Paul Dean Williamson and one sister, Gracie Jean Williamson survives.
In addition to his parents, Luther was predeceased by his son, Robert Joseph Williamson and six of his siblings.
A private Memorial Service will be held with military honors.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Harkins Funeral Home, Inc., of Delta, PA.
