Obituary

MARGARET KATHRYN MARKLINE HARKINS, 94 of Whiteford, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 in her home. She was the beloved wife of the late Edgar Irving Harkins, Jr., and they had shared 57 years of marriage at the time of his death in 2002.

Born at home on September 13, 1926 in Madonna, MD, she was a daughter of the late John Nicholas Markline, Jr., and Edith Roberta (Smith) Markline. Margaret attended the former Jarrettsville High School and received her nursing certification from the Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Margaret was the model of a dedicated farm wife and mother, working alongside her late husband while she cared for the family and their home. Margaret was a longtime member of the Harford and Maryland State Homemakers Associations as well as the local library and many other community based organizations. She was a former member and supported her children through the Maryland 4-H program.

Christian faith was always the center of her life and she was a 50 plus year member of Emory United Methodist Church where in earlier years, she had been active in church events and programs. Margaret shared her faith with others and was proud that her family had followed her footsteps in their own faith. She led a busy and fruitful life and will be remembered as one who modeled persistence and tenacity. Her kind spirit and contagious smile will be missed.

She is survived by her dedicated family:

Five children-

Betsy (Tom) Galbreath, Edgar (Nancy) Harkins, Kathleen (Bill) Scott, Janet Smyers and Charles (Jean) Harkins

13 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren

She was preceded in death by;

Two sons- Richard Harkins and George Harkins

Her great grandson, Henry Boyer
