ODESSA JUNE TROUT, nee Atkin, died at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium on Sunday, March 25, 2012 of cancer and arterial disease. She was the wife of C. Donald Trout of Street and the daughter of the late John Carleton (Billy) Atkin and Verma Bennington Atkin.
Born in Whiteford, MD on July 11, 1930, June graduated from the former Slate Ridge High School in 1947. During her high school years, she was an outstanding basketball player who also loved to dance. Following graduation, she was employed at the local sewing factories in Whiteford and Delta.
After her marriage to Donald Trout in 1966, she worked full time in every capacity on the Trout dairy farm until her declining health caused her to limit her activities. It was then that she crocheted many beautiful pieces, the most outstanding being a 104" by 64" tablecloth. Her deep love of animals, especially her beloved cats, lasted until the last days of her life.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her only sibling, Robert (Bob) Atkins. Her immediate survivors include her husband; her sisters-in-law, Anna Atkins of York, Betty Trout Holmes and her husband, William of Jarrettsville; Eleanor Trout Minton of Jarrettsville and her aunt Hazel Bennington of Dallastown. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA. Chaplain Lauretta Halstead will officiate.
Interment will be in Slate Ridge Cemetery, Delta,
Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m.
