ROBERT EUGENE SMITH, 90 of Delta, PA, passed away early on Sunday, November 12, 2023 in his home. His loving wife, Leona M. (Krick) Smith of 68 years died on June 22, 2022.

Born on October 4, 1933 in York County, PA, he was the oldest of three sons born to the late Clarence Smith (known as Dutch) and Ruth (Miller) Smith. Bob was a US Army veteran of the Korean War Era serving in Alaska with the 503rd Airborne Infantry Regiment. He continued in service to his country working as a supervisor for the Aberdeen Proving Ground for 33 years. He also served his community as a firefighter for the Delta-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Department.

Bob was known for his love for the sport of golfing and made the annual trip with his golfing buddies to Myrtle Beach, SC as well as playing on local courses. He was a great story teller and enjoyed keeping people laughing with his gifted sense of humor. Bob was a longtime member of the Mt. Nebo Church of Delta (formerly Mt. Nebo UMC) where he had served as a trustee, sang in the choir, helped with church dinners, with the annual apple butter fundraiser and funeral luncheons. He and his late wife, Leona were familiar faces at all of the church events. They both had enjoyed the company of the longtime family dog, ALF who had passed before them. It could be said that where your saw Leona – Bob was there too, and if you saw Bob – Leona was close by. A constant presence of love and devotion will be a fond memory for family and friends.

A brother, Richard Smith, his wife, Mary and their family of Delta, PA.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Leon "Bugs" Smith.

Services will be held at Mt. Nebo Church of Delta, 962 Flintville Rd., Delta, PA with a viewing on Thursday evening, the 16th from 6 – 8 p.m. and on Friday from 1 – 2 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. Mr. Dennis McCleary will officiate. Interment services will be held after the funeral in the adjoining church cemetery with military honors presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
