IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Joel
Palmer, Jr.
February 14, 1957 – July 24, 2021
Robert Joel Palmer, Jr. 1957–2021 Life reflection written by his family-
Bob was the best fisherman I ever knew. He would read Patrick McManus stories in the kitchen, laughing so hard he couldn't finish reading the story out loud, making the rest of us laugh until we cried. Here are things I heard people share about Bob as they came to visit him over the last two months of his life - words and descriptions of a life lived better than many of us ever knew or appreciated: Captain, hunter, prankster, loyal friend, the initiator of so many adventures for so many people including my children every time we would come home to visit Mom and Dad, with whom he lived and looked after.
One could call him a jack of all trades: boat repairman, camper repairman, expert furniture refinisher, carver of staves, arrowhead hunter, rock collector, woodworker, gardener, excellent cook, storyteller, singer of all kinds of songs. He loved worship songs as well as James Taylor and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and only a few could boast of hearing him play his harmonica on stage.
He appreciated nature, could talk to anyone, never met a stranger, would give away the shirt off his back, and no one ever walked away without hearing how good God was and how He saved Bob's life. Generous, spiritual, an AA Sponsor, a people lover and he did not believe any person was a lost cause. He looked for and often found joy in every situation even the painful ones. He was son, brother, loving husband, father, stepfather, Pop-Pop, friend of Jesus, and Son of God.
Ultimately, at 64 years old, Bob lost the battle with pancreatic cancer. He went home to be with the Lord at approximately 12:30 AM on Saturday, July 24, 2021. He passed away peacefully in his home in Delta, PA with his wife Victoria Palmer by his side. He is preceded in death by his father Robert Joel Palmer, Sr. and his mother Charlotte Ann Palmer, both of Charlestown, MD. Bob is survived by his wife Victoria Palmer of Delta, PA; his son, Joel Thomas Palmer, of Sissonville, SC; and two stepchildren Taneka Watkins and Keith Bowles, both of Delta, PA. Bob has six grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Charles Timothy Palmer of Newnan, GA; and Michael William Palmer of Greenville, TX; and his sister Rebecca Lynn Andrade of Lone Oak, TX.
There will not be a funeral service for Bob, but his family will be returning to North Carolina later this month to scatter his cremated remains at sea which was Bob's wish.
