Obituary

On Wednesday, September 28, 2011, ROGER LEE SHIFLETT, SR., age 66 years, went to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior after returning from a 17 day hospitalization to the home he built and loved in Delta, Pennsylvania. He was the wonderful and devoted husband of Barbara Ann (Spurlock) Shiflett for almost 35 years, renewing their wedding vows on Valentine's Day in 2010.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 6, 1945, he was one of eight children of the late Paul Wade Shiflett and Betty Marie (Elbon) Shiflett. In September 2005, Roger retired from his position as an A/C Technician with Becton-Dickinson Microbiology Systems in Sparks, Maryland. He was previously employed as a sheet metal mechanic. Always an ambitious industrious individual as a young boy, he had a paper route, delivered groceries and shined shoes.

Roger had an amazing God-given mechanically-inclined gift and enjoyed working with all types of machines and on his cars. He also enjoyed spending time at "Camp Almost Heaven" in Galeton, Pennsylvania where he was part-owner of a cabin with family members. He enjoyed bowling, roller skating and performing tricks with yo-yos. Roger was a member of the Woodbine Believers Assembly in Airville, Pennsylvania.

Always a kind and good-hearted man, Roger was respected and loved by many. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Roger was the proud and loving father of:

Cynthia Gail Shiflett of Millersville, Maryland

Roger Lee Shiflett, Jr. of Pasadena, Maryland

Jewell Renae Benoit and Edward Leroy Freeland, Jr., both of Delta, Pennsylvania

Seven very special grandchildren

Numerous adoring nieces and nephews, all of which looked to him for wisdom and advice.

Brothers:

Edward Ray Shiflett of Homestead, Florida

Boyd Arnold Shiflett of Airville, Pennsylvania

Jerry Louis Shiflett of Monument, Colorado

Timothy Orestus Shiflett of Bel Air, Maryland

A sister, Phyllis Marie Shiflett Cox of Ocala, Florida

He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Wade Shiflett, Jr., and sister, Cynthia Marie Shiflett.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, Pennsylvania.

Funeral services will be on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
