Ronnie Lee Barben, age 78, of Whiteford, MD, passed peacefully at his home on August 25, 2026, with his wife of 57 years, Wilma (Lee) Barben, by his side.

Ronnie was born at home in Whiteford, MD, on June 12, 1948. He was the son of Charles Barben Sr. and Margaret (Thompson) Barben. He was the loving father of Steven Barben (Amy), of Delta, PA, and Joanna Hilsmeier (Kurt), of Stewartstown, PA. He was the proud grandfather of Jacob Barben, of South Carolina, and Sara and Connor Hilsmeier, of Stewartstown, PA.

Ronnie is also survived by his brother, Daniel “Danny” Barben (Tina). He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charles Jr.; his sister, Betty (Barben) Gray; and his infant brother, Richard.

Ronnie worked for Harford County Highways until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Whiteford and Delta-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Companies, with over 55 years of service. Those who knew Ronnie knew that he took pride and dedication in everything he did. He was not one who wanted attention or recognition for his hard work, giving countless hours, holidays, and weekends to serve and protect his community. Ronnie was a man of his word and kindness. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

The family would like to acknowledge the Upper Chesapeake Kaufman Cancer Center in Bel Air, Maryland, and Upper Chesapeake Hematology and Oncology in Aberdeen, Maryland. Their wonderful staff showed support and compassion to Ronnie and his family.

In Ronnie’s memory, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company, or Delta-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company.

Family and friends may gather for visitation on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wagner-Elfner and Harkins Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 600 Main Street, Delta, PA 17314.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Slate Ridge Cemetery.

Fire Department Notice

Fire Department personnel attending Ronnie’s services are respectfully requested to attend in dress uniform. No fire apparatus will be included in the funeral services or procession.
