Ruth Ellen Knight, age 100, passed away on September 6, 2026.

Born on July 1, 1926, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Ruth was the daughter of the late Charles Gochenauer and Miriam E. Gochenauer (née Kahley).

Ruth lived a remarkable century filled with family, faith, travel, and the simple things she enjoyed most. She loved to knit and was an avid reader. Her faith and church community were also important parts of her life, and she was active in the United Methodist Women organization.

Ruth had a special love for the beach—although she preferred it during the quieter off-season, when the crowds had gone home and she could enjoy it at her own pace.

She also loved to travel and see the world. Ruth would occasionally say that she had not traveled nearly enough, although her adventures told a different story. Australia, Europe, and Africa were among the many destinations she was able to check off her list throughout her life.

Above all, Ruth cherished her family. She was the loving mother of William J. Knight, Jr. and his wife, Joyce; the late Ellen E. Cullum; and Mary Raab and her husband, Mark. She was the beloved grandmother of Brian J. Cullum and James J. Raab.

Ruth was also preceded in death by her brother, Joseph C. Gochenauer, and her sister, Dorothy M. Rhem.
