Thomas Edd Evans, age 94, of Street, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 30, 2026, with his family by his side.
Born January 10, 1932, Thomas was the son of the late John Edwards Evans and Emma E. (Hayes) Evans. A native of Mississippi, Tom spent his childhood there before entering the United States Army at the age of 18. His military service brought him to Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, an area that would become an important part of both his personal and professional life.
Tom went on to build a long career at Aberdeen Proving Ground, retiring in 1987. Never one to simply sit still, retirement gave him the opportunity to devote even more time to the organizations, communities, and activities that meant so much to him.
Throughout his life, Tom believed in giving his time to others. He was very active with the Boy Scouts at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Whiteford, Maryland, serving as a Scoutmaster during the 1970s and 1980s and helping to guide generations of young people. He was also a longtime supporter of Little League baseball in Shinglehouse, Pennsylvania, and a lifetime member of the American Legion in both the Slate Ridge and Shinglehouse communities.
Tom is survived by his children, James Evans and his wife, Denise, of Street, Maryland; Gerald Evans of Havre de Grace, Maryland; and Adrianne Cantler and her husband, Josh, of Columbia, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his grandchild, Montana Cantler.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel O’Cleare Evans, formerly of Alabama; and his sister, Myrtle Lee Evans Olsen, formerly of Washington State.
Family and friends are invited to attend services on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Wagner-Elfner and Harkins Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 600 Main Street, Delta, PA 17314. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery in Whiteford, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to either the Slate Ridge American Legion, the Shinglehouse American Legion, or to the donor’s favorite Armed Forces organization in Tom’s memory.
