VERNON J. HERBST, 89 of Delta, PA died on Sunday, August 29, 2021 in Manor Care South, York, PA. Married for 62 years, he was the beloved husband of Miriam E. (Barrett) Herbst.

Born on September 9, 1931 in Lancaster County, PA, he was one of nine children born to the late Jacob William Herbst and Esther (Mundis) Herbst and served in the United States Army during the Korean War from November 1952 to November 1954. Vernon worked for NCR (National Cash Register) in Mt. Joy, PA as a printer for 38 years. He was awarded the Certificate of Craftsmanship by the Master Printers of America in August of 1974.

A longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Windsor, PA, he has served as an usher and on the board of trustees. He was an avid vegetable gardener. His kind and friendly spirit will be missed.

A son, John Herbst of Delta, PA

Wife of his late son, James Herbst who died on March 13, 2017, Lori Herbst of East Berlin, PA

A granddaughter, Jessica Warner of East Berlin, PA

A sister, Faye Smith of Dallastown, PA

He was also preceded in death by seven siblings.

Graveside services will be held in Windsor Cemetery, Windsor Road, Windsor, PA at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021; please gather at the grave for the service.
