WILLIAM L. HEAPS, age 82 years, died on Monday, January 10, 2011 in his home in Pylesville, Maryland. He was the husband of Barbara Avenelle Heaps who died on March 11, 2003.

Born on September 14, 1928 in Pylesville, he was a son of the late Raymond W. and Mae A. (Fletcher) Heaps. He had been a lifetime resident of Harford County and graduated from the Maryland State School for the Deaf in Frederick, Maryland. Shortly after graduation, Mr. Heaps joined Oak Grove Baptist Church in Bel Air, Maryland where he met his late wife in the Deaf Choir. Both were involved in the choir for many years, and he was also involved with the Living Tree performances.

Retiring in 1980 with over 30 years of service, he had worked for the Harford County Department of Public Works as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed gardening and was known to be smiling wherever he went.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Cletus N. Heaps on March 29, 2007.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, Pennsylvania.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 14th at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Pylesville.
