Obituary

William D. Jones, age 79 years of Delta, PA died on Sunday, Dec. 26 at his home after a courageous fight with Parkinsons' Disease. He was the husband of Joan (Heaps) Jones for over 54 years.

Bill was born on June 28, 1931 in Cardiff, MD a son of the late Latimer M. and Hollace (Orr) Jones. He was a graduate of the former Western Maryland College in 1952 where he was a member of ROTC, joining the US Army after graduation and serving with the 82nd Airborne in Korea and continuing in the Army Reserves retiring in 1979 as a Lt. Colonel. He was a lifetime member of Slate Ridge American Legion Post #182 and John S. Murphy Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Delta, PA.

He worked at Delta Appliance starting in 1955 for his father and later became sole owner and operator of Delta Gas. He was a member of Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church serving in many positions thru the years.

He was Past Master at Esdraelon Lodge #176 A.F. & A.M, 32nd degree masonof the Scottish Rite and a member of the Boumi Temple. Mr. Jones was also past patron at Penn-Mary Order of the Eastern Star and had been the Worthy Grand Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star for the state of Maryland.

In addition to his wife he is survived by 3 children- Denny "Bones" Jones and his companion Suzanne Yoder of Delta.

Funeral service will be on Thursday, Dec., 30 at 11 AM at Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church, 1630 Chestnut St., Cardiff, MD.

Visitation will be at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main St., Delta, PA on Wednesday, Dec. 29 from 6-9 PM with a Masonic Service at 8:30 PM

Burial will be in Slate Ridge Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 1630 Chestnut St. Whiteford, MD 21160
