Obituary

WILLIAM LISTON HITCHCOCK, 87 of Rising Sun, MD died on Sunday, April 2, 2023 in Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, Bel Air, MD. He was the loving husband for 57 years of Kathleen I. (Forney) Hitchcock and they were married on June 5, 1965 in Franklin Baptist Church.

Born in the Bailey's Corner area of Harford County, MD, he was a son of the late Charles A. Hitchcock and Amelia J. (Zellman) Hitchcock. Known as one of the class clowns, Bill was a member of the fourth graduating class of the newly built North Harford High School of Pylesville, MD in 1954. He served with the United States Air Force and then with the United States Army with a total of 16 years in the armed forces. Bill worked as a trackman for 22 years with Amtrak as well as serving with the Maryland State Police. He was a longtime member of Franklin Baptist Church of Darlington, MD where he had served as a greeter with his brother, Arnold, who just passed last month.

Bill enjoyed watching pro wrestling and will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, cherished uncle and a hardworking man taking pride in providing for his family and serving his country.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:

Three sons - Brian Lee Hitchcock; William L. Hitchcock, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn; Brent Lewis Hitchcock. Five grandchildren – Kaitlin Hitchcock, Brandon Hitchcock, Matthew Hitchcock, Tiffani Hitchcock and Emily Pearl Hitchcock. A great granddaughter, Shealeigh Stepho. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold Hitchcock and Charles Hitchcock.

Services will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Franklin Baptist Church, 2105 Franklin Church Road, Darlington, MD 21034 with a viewing from 10 – 11 a.m. followed immediately with the funeral at 11 a.m. Reverend John Davis will officiate with interment in Harford Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, MD. Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the graveside by The United States Army.
