Obituary

William Harrison Smith, Jr., 74, of Darlington died Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Born on August 5, 1937 in Baltimore, Mr. Smith was the son of the late William H. and Blanche Smith.

He attended North Harford High School and proudly served in the U. S. Marine Corps. He was employed as a welder and crane operator for the Wiley Manufacturing Company in Port Deposit before establishing an excavation business in 1962. He was a loyal husband, father, brother and friend and devoted grandfather who enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time with his family and watching the birds at his summer home on the Herring Creek in West Ocean City, Maryland.

Mr. Smith was the beloved husband of the late Carolyn J. (Petty) Smith and is survived by his children, Kimberly Malat and her husband Andy of Port Deposit, William H. Smith, III and his wife Paula of Darlington, and Angela Boin and her husband Paul of Havre de Grace; and seven adored grandchildren, William H., IV, Anna and Emily Smith and Aaron, Samuel, Noah and Rachel Boin. He is also survived by two brothers, five sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 3, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA with a military presentation at 7:45 p.m. by the Harford County Division of the Fallen Marine Corps League.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Church, 222 S. Law Street, Aberdeen, with internment to follow at Darlington Cemetery, Darlington, Maryland with military honors presented by the US Marine Corps Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation, 520 Upper Chesapeake Drive, Suite 405, Bel Air, MD 21014.
