WILMA A. PHILLIPS, age 88 years, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013 in her home in Darlington, MD. Visitations will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA with the funeral service on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in Harford Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, MD.

Wilma Alida Church was born on December 18, 1924 in Watauga County, North Carolina to Donley Winifred and Lucy Shirley Church. To her parents' union, four children were born including an infant, Henry, who died at birth. Her siblings, Ruby Woodie and Avery Church also preceded her in death.

During WWII, Wilma worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" for the former Glenn L. Martin Company in Baltimore, MD. In 1943 she married Otis Gaither Miller, and to this union their two children, Larry and Jimmie Miller, were born. Ot and Wilma moved from their beloved North Carolina mountains in the 1950's, remaining in Darlington, MD for the rest of their lives. Wilma was preceded in death by Ot in 1970, as well as her son, Jimmie in 1996 and his wife, Jerri in 2007. Her second husband, Wendell W. Phillips, passed away in 2010.

Wilma was proud of her southern heritage and took great pride in her home, lawn and gardening. She was a farmer her entire lifetime, caring for the calves and additional farm activities. A member of TOPS, she was a regular at their Dublin meetings. Wilma was of a kind spirit, generous heart, never meeting a stranger and befriending everyone.

She treasured her family and their times spent together.

She will be missed by her family: A son, Larry Miller and his wife, Carolyn of Elkton, MD, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two nieces, in addition to a stepson, three stepdaughters and five step grandchildren.
