WILMA R. MCCONNELL, age 87 years, of Delta, Pennsylvania died on Friday, March 20, 2009 at Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care in Towson, Maryland. She was the wife of the late Howard F. McConnell.
Born on May 2, 1921 in Gate City, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Nathan Washington and Laura (McConnell) Dougherty. She was the valedictorian of her high school class and had worked in the meat department for the former Getz's Company and the former Super Thrift in Red Lion, Pennsylvania. She was an avid tole painter, winning many awards with her work. She was member of the Needlers, Sewing Guild, Highland Senior Center, Highland Painters, Highland Homemakers, Bel Air & Brandywine Painters and Keystone Painters. She was a member of the New Life Church of God in Jarrettsville, Maryland.
She is survived by:
Two children-
Sam S. McConnell and his wife, Anne of Delta, Pennsylvania
Anna Rose Montgomery and her husband, Robert of Darlington, Maryland
Six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A brother, N. W. Dougherty, Jr. and his wife, Nella of Gate City, Virginia
A sister, Betty Sue McConnell of Big Stone Gap, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by a son, Earl Dwight McConnell.
Visitations will be held on Monday, March 23, 2009 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM and on Tuesday morning from 10 - 11 AM at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, Pennsylvania where the funeral service will begin at 11 AM.
Her pastor, Mark Warfield will officiate.
Interment will be in Gardens of Faith Memorial Park, 5598 Trumps Mill Road, Baltimore, Maryland.
