Services

Many people do not fully recognize the importance of a funeral service for all who are affected by a loss. A funeral is often the first step toward healing and plays a vital role in the grieving process. It is more than a gathering of family and friends to say goodbye; it is a meaningful opportunity to honor, celebrate, and remember a life well lived.

Choosing the type of service for yourself or a loved one is a deeply personal decision. At Harkins Funeral Home, our dedicated and professional staff takes the time to explain the funeral process, present the available options, and assist in creating a service that truly reflects the unique spirit of one precious life. We understand that each family has its own traditions, values, and wishes, and it is our goal to do everything possible to provide comfort, support, and a sense of healing during this difficult time.

Graveside Service

A graveside service is conducted at the place of burial and may be limited to immediate family members or open to all who wish to attend. Following the graveside service, families may choose to hold a memorial service at the funeral home chapel, a church, or another preferred venue.

Memorial Service

A memorial service is held without the body present and may vary in ceremony and format based on the family’s wishes. The service may take place at the funeral home or at a location of your choosing. To create a memorial service that truly reflects the life and personality of your loved one, we encourage families to personalize the service with meaningful memorabilia, photographs, and other personal items.

Cremation Options

For families considering cremation as an alternative to traditional burial, it is important to know that cremation does not limit the opportunity for meaningful services. For those who prefer a more traditional approach, we offer service packages that may include embalming, visitation, and a church or chapel service, followed by cremation. For these services, we provide a selection of wood caskets specifically designed for cremation. These caskets are more economical than standard burial caskets while still allowing families the comfort of a visitation and/or viewing.

We also offer direct cremation services, which typically do not include visitation or a memorial service. This option is often chosen by families seeking a more economical approach to final arrangements. In addition, cremation package services are available and may include a chapel memorial service, an urn allowance, or visitation. When a memorial service is selected, it may be held at a later date, allowing families greater flexibility in planning a service that is most convenient for them.

Video Tribute

Video tributes may be arranged through your funeral director upon request and are created using photographs provided by the family. These presentations typically include 50 to 75 images and are set to music, which may be played during services at the funeral home or another chosen location. Options for including additional photographs are also available. Following the service, families will receive a DVD copy of the video tribute to keep. Additional copies may be purchased for a nominal fee.

Custom Memory Books, Memorial Folders, and Acknowledgement Cards

As part of our commitment to honoring each life in a meaningful way, our staff creates custom memory books, memorial folders, and acknowledgement cards designed to reflect the individuality of your loved one. These items may feature photographs representing special vocations, meaningful locations, or favorite hobbies. Families may choose from our selection of stock images or provide personal photographs for use as cover images.

In addition, families are welcome to include inspirational poems, prayers, or Bible verses to further personalize memorial folders and create a lasting tribute.
