Life Story for Charles L. VanDyke

Charles L.  VanDyke
CHARLES L. VANDYKE, age 81 years, died on Sunday, November 4, 2012 in his home in Airville, Pennsylvania. He was the husband of Mary (Stamper) VanDyke, and they had shared 60 years of marriage.

Born on June 1, 1931 in Brogue, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Garland and Lucie (Jourdon) VanDyle, A lifetime resident of lower York County, he had worked for 25 years as a truck driver for J.P. Donmoyer of York, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Airville, and enjoyed spending time vacationing in Florida. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, fishing and taking walks.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:
Four children-
Charles VanDyke, Jr. and his companion, Mary of Clarksville, Georgia
Lucy Geisecke and her husband, Dennis, also of Clarksville
Deborah Sowards and her husband, Allen of Airville, Pennsylvania
Robert VanDyke and his wife, Evelyn of Brogue, Pennsylvania

Twelve grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren

A sister, Nellie Hawks and her husband, Gary of Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania

Loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William E. VanDyke on September 17, 2000.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, 4162 Delta Road, Airville, PA 17302 where the funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m.

His brother-in-law, Pastor Rodney Stamper of Bethany Baptist Church will officiate.

Interment will be in Slate Ridge Cemetery, Delta, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate memorial contributions to the church at the above address.
