Obituary for Wilson Scott Jones

Wilson Scott Jones
Wilson Scott Jones, a retired dairy farmer of Pylesville, MD, died on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, Bel Air, MD. He was the husband of Nancy R. (Richardson) Jones with whom he shared over 54 years of marriage.

Born on March 31, 1927 in Pylesville, MD, he was a son of the late Thomas Scott and Mary (Wilson) Jones. A lifetime resident of Harford County for the past 85 years, he was a 1944 graduate of the former Highland High School in Street, MD.

Growing up as one of four sons during the Depression Era, he went to live with his uncle, Kenneth Wilson to learn the farming techniques and management skills necessary to become a successful farmer. Since Kenneth had two daughters and no sons, he was glad to have his young nephew protégé by his side. Wilson was an active member of the 4-H where he achieved the “All-Star” Award. In 1956, Wilson purchased a farm from his father and the adjoining 140 acre John Bay Farm in 1960. In 1961, Wilson was named the Harford County Jaycees “Outstanding Young Farmer” award which qualified him to compete on the state level where he finished 2nd.

In 1974 he purchased his third location, the David G. Harry Farm in Pylesville to increase the farming operation by 213 acres. He served on numerous agricultural board of directors including the D.H.I.A., Southern States Coop. and the Harford County Farm Bureau where he was honored as the 2001 Harford County Farm of the Year.

Unique to the “Wilson” family of his late mother, he was the 6th continuous generation to farm in Harford County where his son, David continues the family tradition as the 7th.

Church was an important part of Wilson’s life and he was a lifetime member of Highland Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, deacon and trustee.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:
Four children-
Carolyn B. Jones of Baltimore, MD
Marcia K. Jones, David W. Jones and his wife, Cindy and Susan J. Summerfield and her husband, Steven all of Pylesville, MD

Six grandchildren-Ian Wilson Jones, Seth D. Jones, Lydia M. Jones, C. Rowan Jones, Sarah J. Summerfield and Scott R. Summerfield.

Two brothers-
Harry L. Jones of Bel Air, MD
Robert L. Jones of Westminster, MD

He was preceded in death by a sister, Edith D. Cooper and a brother, Samuel T. Jones

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Highland Presbyterian Church, 701 Highland Road, Street, MD with his pastor Rev. John V. Carlson officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Visitations will be on Tuesday, November 20th at the church from 3:00-5:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland Presbyterian Church Capital Campaign, 701 Highland Road, Street, MD 21154
