Life Story for George Carroll Merryman, Jr.

George Carroll  Merryman, Jr.
GEORGE CARROLL MERRYMAN, JR., died from complications of suffering strokes on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 5:30 a.m. in the Stella Maris Hospice of Timonium, MD. He had shared 58 years of marriage with his wife, Olivia.

Born on August 15, 1932 in Bradshaw, MD, he spent his childhood in the White Marsh area and began working for a neighboring truck farm at the age of 11 years. At the age of 18 years, he was employed with the former Glenn L. Martin Company and a year later, worked for the River Valley Ranch in Millers, MD, caring for the horses and cultivating the fields. In 1953 at the age of 20, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served two years stationed at the Oakland Army Base. While serving in Oakland, CA, he met his bride, a WAC named Olivia Hallman of Bolton, MS, and they were married..

After moving back to MD, they settled on a farm in Whiteford. Mr. Merryman was then employed by Acme Markets, working the night shift for 15 years where he stocked shelves. In 1974, he began working as a Corrections Officer at the Harford County Detention Center, serving for 20 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:
Five children-
Jeffery B. Merryman of Whiteford, MD
Victoria F. Robbins of Fallston, MD
Daniel G. Merryman of Whiteford, MD
Connie M. Merryman, both of Whiteford, MD
Samuel C. Merryman of Hagerstown, MD

21grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Two sisters-
Shirley Damron and Eunice Schultz, both of Morristown, FL

Preceded in death by a daughter, Roseanna Wescott

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 1, 2013 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Reformation Bible Church, 1736 Whiteford Road, Darlington, MD where the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 2nd at 11 a.m.

Reverend Dr. John E. McKnight will officiate with entombment in Bel Air Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harford Christian School, PO Box 88, Darlington, MD 21034.
