Life Story for Mabel Whiteford Day
MABEL (nee Whiteford) Day died on March 30, 2013 at the age of 93 years. She was the wife of the late Frank Dooley Day.
Mabel was born and lived her entire lifetime in Whiteford. She had many friends, enjoyed playing bridge, appreciated antiques and was known as an excellent cook. Mabel loved local history, trains and searching the genealogy of her family. A very active member of Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church for nearly 70 years, she had served as a deacon, circle leader and Bible study leader. Originally a member of Slateville Presbyterian Church where she was married, she will rest there with her family.
For the past 13 years, Mabel had suffered from severe mascular degeneration. Many admired her independence and fortitude to endure this disease. Her final days were spent at Sunrise in Westtown, PA where she could be closer to her daughters. The staffs of the facility and hospice were wonderful, making her final journey home to be with the Lord very peaceful.
She is survived by:
Two daughters-
Nancy Blake and her husband, George of Gwynedd Valley, PA
Jeani Purcell and her husband, Kevin of West Chester, PA
Five grandchildren-Christopher, Michael, Katie, Christian and Jenny-Kate.
Sister to:
Jean Whiteford Hoke of Ephrata, PA
William McConkey (Mac) Whiteford
Mary Katherine Whiteford
She was preceded in death by a brother, Winfield Scott Whiteford.
Friends and relatives are invited to greet the family on Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. at Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church, 1630 Chestnut Street, Whiteford, MD 21160.
